About Me
Hello! I'm Abbi Martin and I teach 10th and 11th grade English Language Arts at Blair Oaks High School! I have student taught at Jefferson City Public Schools and Columbia Public Schools, but this is my first year teaching. I graduated last May from The University of Missouri with a Bachelor's degree in Education with an emphasis and minor in English. In addition to being certified to teach 6th-12th grade ELA, I am also certified to teach FACS grades K-12!
Growing up, I was never without a book in my hand. If I wasn't reading, then I was writing. You could mostly find me pretending to teach my mom as we “played school” in my basement. Thus, my love for English and teaching came at an early age. Mixing that with loving to work with middle school and high school aged students has brought me to the perfect job: teaching. I am so excited to be teaching reading and writing to high school students in an amazing school district: Blair Oaks! One of my favorite things in the world is taking a piece of literature that seems too abstract or irrelevant and seeing the light in student's eyes whenever they exclaim, "I get it now!" English is so important and is something students will need to understand for the rest of their lives, no matter what paths they take. In my experience, I’ve learned that education makes a life, not just a living. I’ve learned most about myself through literature, which is why I am excited to be able to teach it.
I live in Columbia with three of my best friends, though I am originally from St. Louis. I absolutely love anything outdoors, anything sports, and anything crafts--- okay, I really just love everything, including trying new things! I am blessed to be a part of the Blair Oaks family and to be able to teach your smart and fun kids!
